Assessment & Testing Information
Burns Science and Technology administers assessments to students from kindergarten through 12th grade to measure their achievement based on Florida’s education standards. These standards were developed to ensure that all students graduate from high school prepared for success in college, careers, and life.
Assessments support both instruction and student learning. The results help district leaders and stakeholders evaluate whether curricular and instructional goals are being met.
Please note: This is general information regarding the types of assessments conducted at Burns. High school students and parents should visit the “Academic Support and Guidance” section under the High School tab on our website for additional details.
Florida law requires students to participate in the statewide, standardized assessment program. Specifically, Section 1008.22(3), F.S., states, “Participation in the assessment program is mandatory for all school districts and all students attending public schools, including students seeking a standard high school diploma under s.1003.4282 and students in Department of Juvenile Justice education programs, except otherwise provided by law…” Burns will fully comply with Florida law.
The following statewide assessments will be administered this year.

B.E.S.T Algebra and B.E.S.T Geometry EOCs
Please be aware that Florida State Statute still requires students in an EOC course (Algebra 1, Geometry, US History, Biology, and Civics) to take the standardized end-of-course exam, and this exam will constitute 30% of the final course grade. In addition, students are still required to meet testing requirements for graduation.
