Elementary Guidance & Support

Our elementary guidance program supports the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development of every student. We partner with families and teachers to help children build confidence, develop positive relationships, and succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

Classroom Guidance

Regular classroom lessons focus on character development, emotional regulation, problem-solving, kindness, responsibility, friendship skills, growth mindset, and making positive choices.

Individual & Small Group Support

Students may meet individually or in small groups to develop coping skills, strengthen friendships, improve self-confidence, manage emotions, and overcome academic or social challenges.

Family Partnership

We believe families are an essential part of student success. Our counselor partners with parents and teachers to identify supports, celebrate progress, and connect families with additional resources when appropriate.

Character Education

Our guidance program reinforces the character traits and leadership skills that help students become respectful, responsible, compassionate, and resilient members of our school community.

Need Additional Support?

If you have concerns about your child's academic progress, emotional well-being, peer relationships, or behavior at school, please contact Ms. Desimini. We are committed to working together to help every student succeed.

Counseling Referral Request

At Burns Sci Tech, the well-being of our students is a top priority. If you notice a student who may need emotional, social, or mental health support, please complete a counseling referral. Our school counseling team is here to provide a safe and supportive environment where students can express themselves, develop coping strategies, and get the help they need. Referrals can be made by staff, parents, or students themselves. Your referral can make a meaningful difference in a student's life.

Mentorship
Program

Playing Chess Together
Mentor Program

The Burns Science & Technology Charter School Mentor Program connects students with caring adult mentors who provide encouragement, support, and positive role models throughout the school year. Through regular one-on-one meetings, mentors help students build confidence, develop positive relationships, and work toward their personal and academic goals.

Become a Mentor

You don’t need to be an expert or have a background in education to make a difference. All it takes is a commitment to show up, listen, and care. Whether you're a retired professional, a local business owner, or simply someone who wants to give back, your time could truly change a life.

If you’re interested in becoming part of this amazing and rewarding program, please reach out to Ms. Desimini at DesiminiC@burnsscitech.org.

What Is the Mentor Program?

The Mentor Program provides your child the opportunity to meet regularly with a positive adult role model from our community who can offer encouragement, guidance, and individual attention. Each mentor is a trained volunteer who commits to spending at least 30 minutes each week with their student on campus. Activities are tailored to each student's needs and interests.

Benefits of Having a Mentor

• Increased self-esteem and self-confidence
• Healthier relationships
• Improved attitudes about school
• Higher college enrollment rates and educational aspirations
• Stronger interpersonal skills

How Students Are Matched

Students are thoughtfully matched with mentors based on their personalities, interests, and needs. Parents are contacted once a match is made, and students begin meeting regularly with their mentor during the school day.

Interested in a Mentor for Your Child?

Complete the Mentor Program Parent Permission Form and return it to the school office. We will work to match your child with a trained mentor and notify you once a match has been made.

Join the Fun!

Mentors, students, and their families are invited to participate in special events throughout the school year to strengthen relationships and celebrate the mentoring experience.
