What Does A Counselor Do?
The School Counselor is here to support every single student on campus!
The School counselor does:

Teach classroom counseling lessons to all students about a variety of counseling-related topics

Facilitate group counseling activities to support student growth based on data-supported needs

Provide brief, solution-focused individual counseling to support academic and social/emotional success

Provide support during crises
-
Collaborate with school staff, families, and community agencies to support students

Make referrals for appropriate community resources and agencies
THE School COUNSELOR DOES NOT:
-
Take disciplinary action against students
-
Only provide career guidance
-
Provide long-term therapy
-
Make diagnoses
-
Work only with students who are frequently in trouble

Have a magic wand to fix all problems
Counseling Referral Request
At Burns Sci Tech, the well-being of our students is a top priority. If you notice a student who may need emotional, social, or mental health support, please complete a counseling referral. Our school counseling team is here to provide a safe and supportive environment where students can express themselves, develop coping strategies, and get the help they need. Referrals can be made by staff, parents, or students themselves. Your referral can make a meaningful difference in a student's life.
Mentorship at Burns
At Burns Sci Tech, our Mentor Program is rooted in the belief that students thrive when they feel seen, supported, and encouraged. This program connects caring adults from our community with students who can benefit from a consistent, positive role model. Mentors meet with their assigned student during the school day, offering encouragement, building trust, and helping students stay focused on their goals both in and out of the classroom. These relationships are powerful, often becoming a steady source of motivation and confidence for our students as they navigate school and life.
You don’t need to be an expert or have a background in education to make a difference. All it takes is a commitment to show up, listen, and care. Whether you're a retired professional, a local business owner, or simply someone who wants to give back, your time could truly change a life.

Elementary School Counselor
Ciana Desimini is a dedicated and compassionate elementary school counselor who brings warmth and positivity to our K–6 students.
She provides both individual and group counseling, helping students build confidence, manage emotions, and develop strong peer relationships. Ciana works closely with teachers and families to create a supportive, inclusive environment where every student can thrive.
