COMMUNITY SERVICE

To ensure volunteer hours qualify for recognition and scholarship programs, students must complete the following steps before beginning service.

Step 1 — Community Service Orientation & Post-Test (Required prior to any volunteering)

  1. Review the YPP Community Service Training Presentation

  2. Complete the Post-Test and turn it in to Ms. Brumenschenkel

Students receive one documented service hour for completing the orientation and post-test together. The training covers what counts as community service and how to properly record hours.

Submit completed post-tests to:

Step 2 — Obtain Pre-Approval Using the YPP Agreement Form

  1. Before volunteering with any organization outside of Burns Sci-Tech, students must complete the Youth Partnership Program (YPP) Agreement Form.

  2. The form must include signatures from: The student, a parent or guardian, a representative from the volunteer organization

The form ensures that the planned service meets Burns Sci-Tech and Bright Futures guidelines.
Pre-approval is not required for Burns clubs, tutoring at school, or school athletics.

Step 3 — Log All Hours on the YPP Sign-In Sheet

Students are responsible for tracking and submitting proof of their service.

The YPP Sign-In Sheet must:

  • List each date of service separately

  • Include specific hours worked each day

  • Contain signatures from the student, parent/guardian, and the service supervisor

For athletic-related hours:

  • Practices and competitions must be documented on the date they occur

  • End-of-season estimates will not be accepted

  • A supervising coach must verify hours within two weeks of the final event in the season

  • Hours from previous seasons that were not documented cannot be added later

Step 4 — Senior Reflection Requirement (Seniors only)

Graduating seniors complete a one-time Volunteer Experience Reflection.
This provides students an opportunity to summarize and reflect on their service.
Due Date: April 1 of Senior Year
