Our Board Members
Please take a moment to learn more about our volunteer board members, a team of community leaders whose dedicated service have played a vital role in helping our school grow and improve, making a positive impact on our students and their education.
APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN TO JOIN OUR BOARD
The Burns Science and Technology Charter School Board of Directors is seeking to add a seventh member. We are looking for highly collaborative individuals whose primary goal is to protect the interests of BST while providing accountability and support to the administrative team. Please reach out to our administration with any questions.
Board members are expected to:

Act in the best interest of the school and its students.

Provide accountability, governance, and strategic oversight.

Support and participate in fundraising efforts for the school.

Attend and actively participate in meetings and events. Members may miss no more than three regular meetings per year.

Application and Interview Process
-
Complete the application by October 3, 2025
-
Applicants will be contacted to schedule two interviews (SAC & the Board)
-
Interviews and selection will take place in December 2025
-
The selected applicant must complete required online training, background screening, and fingerprinting with Volusia County
-
The new member will officially join the Board after winter break
Anticipated Time Commitments
-
9 regular board meetings per year
-
Meetings typically last 30 minutes to 2 hours (occasionally longer depending on the agenda)
-
Additional meetings may be scheduled if urgent business arises
-

Workshops (as needed) – generally 1–2 hours in length
-
School events: occasional attendance at orientation, athletic events, open house, end-of-year awards, and graduation ceremonies

Staff encouragement: Board members are encouraged to select one month during the school year to provide intentional encouragement to BST’s faculty and staff. This may be in the form of a small gift, notes of appreciation, or personal engagement.

What time does morning drop-off begin?
-
Grades K–6: Drop-off begins at 7:40 AM.
(There is no morning care available before this time.) -
Grades 7–12: Drop-off begins at 7:30 AM.
What time is afternoon pick-up?
Pick-up times and locations vary by grade level and sibling groupings:

3:10 PM – White Building:
K–1 students without older siblings
K–1 students with siblings in grades 2–6 -
3:15 PM – Office/Cafeteria:
Grades 2–3 with no siblings or with siblings in grades 4–6 -
3:20 PM – Office/Cafeteria:
Grades 4–5 without siblings or with siblings in grade 6 -
3:30 PM – Office/Cafeteria:
Grade 6 students without younger siblings -
3:45 PM – Gymnasium:
Grades 7–8 and any 9–12 siblings -
3:45 PM – High School Loop:
Grades 9–12 students without siblings in grades 7–8
What if I have more than one child in different grades?
Follow this general rule:
Pick up at the youngest child’s location, at the oldest child’s pick-up time.
Examples:

A family with a 1st grader and a 3rd grader should pick up both children at the White Building at 3:15 PM.

A family with a kindergartener and a 4th grader should pick up at the White Building at 3:20 PM.

A family with a 2nd grader and a 6th grader should pick up at the Office/Cafeteria at 3:30 PM.
What if I have children in both K–6 and 7–12?
Please follow this two-step process:

Pick up your K–6 student(s) first at their designated location and time.
-
Loop around to Ridge Road and proceed to the High School or Gymnasium for 7–12 pick-up.
Arrive for K–6 pick-up at the designated time based on grade level, then proceed to the 7–12 loop for the 3:45 PM pick-up.
What are the traffic rules on Ridge Road?
To ensure safety and efficiency:
-
Ridge Road is one-way during pick-up and drop-off hours.
-
No lane changes are permitted at the intersection of East Halifax Ave. and Ridge Road (enter in the correct lane).
-
Follow all speed limit and traffic signage.
-
Be aware of oncoming traffic when turning from East Halifax Avenue onto Ridge Rd.
-
Pull forward fully before loading or unloading students to help keep the line moving smoothly.
