Welcome to Burns Science & Technology Charter School! It is an incredible privilege to serve as principal of a school where students are known, valued, challenged, and encouraged to become the very best versions of themselves. At Burns, we believe education is about far more than academics. It is about creating experiences, building relationships, developing character, encouraging curiosity, and helping children discover just how much they are capable of. As an educator and school leader, I believe some of the most important work we do begins with making sure every child feels that they belong. When students feel safe, loved, and connected to their school, we create the foundation for them to take risks, make mistakes, ask questions, grow, and achieve. What makes Burns so special is our community. Our teachers and staff bring tremendous heart to their work, our families are true partners, and our students continually remind us why this work matters. Together, we have created a school that values innovation and high expectations while never losing sight of the individual child. My hope is that every student who walks through our doors leaves Burns knowing more than when they arrived, not only academically, but about themselves, their abilities, and the impact they can have on the world around them. I am proud of all that Burns has accomplished, but I am even more excited about where we are going. We will continue learning, trying new things, supporting one another, and creating meaningful opportunities for our students. Most importantly, we will continue doing it The Burns Way with purpose, heart, and the belief that every student matters, every day. Student Life & School Traditions
At Burns Sci-Tech, some of the best learning, leadership, and memories happen through the traditions that bring our school community together.
Throughout the year, students participate in experiences designed to build connection, creativity, confidence, and school spirit.
Our traditions include Start With Hello Week, which encourages students to notice classmates who may feel left out, reach out, and build a more connected school community; WIG Day, when students set and celebrate their “Wildly Important Goals”; and pep rallies that bring everyone together to celebrate our students and Eagle spirit.
Learning takes on a different look during Genius Hour, Aviation Day, and STOP & STEM events.
Special Areas of Study
Elementary students explore a wide variety of Special Areas each week, including STEM, art, music, physical education, Spanish, technology, media, guidance, and other enriching experiences.
These engaging classes complement core academics by fostering creativity, critical thinking, communication, teamwork, physical wellness, and innovation. Through hands-on learning and new experiences, students have opportunities to discover their interests, build confidence, and develop skills that support lifelong learning.
Athletics
Burns Sci-Tech athletics give students opportunities to stay active, represent their school, and experience the excitement of teamwork and competition.
Activities & Clubs
Student life at Burns Sci-Tech extends far beyond the classroom through clubs, school-wide events, enrichment activities, and meaningful traditions.
Leader in Me
Leader in Me helps students develop the character, confidence, and habits needed to lead themselves and positively influence others.
Through the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and meaningful leadership opportunities, students learn responsibility, goal-setting, collaboration, and effective communication. The program encourages students to take ownership of their learning, build positive relationships, and contribute to their school community.
House Program & Color Bash
Our House Program creates a strong sense of belonging by welcoming every elementary student into one of four Houses: Sekhara, Oriana, Arataki, or Ravaka.
Throughout the year, students earn House points by demonstrating leadership, character, teamwork, school spirit, and academic excellence. House activities encourage friendships across grade levels and culminate in our exciting Color Bash, a celebration of teamwork, friendly competition, and the Burns Sci-Tech community.
