Pre-AP Capstone
at Burns Sci-Tech
The Pre-Capstone Program is the highest academic track available to students in grades 7–9, designed to build the skills and coursework foundation needed for top-tier high school programs like AP Capstone, IB, and Dual Enrollment. Depending on when you start, 7th or 8th grade, you'll complete a set number of Pre-Capstone courses, including a Dual Enrollment course, giving you real college-level experience while still in junior high.
It's your chance to challenge yourself, build serious academic skills early, and open doors to the most competitive programs your high school has to offer.
Students that successfully complete the Pre-Capstone Program by the end of their 9th grade year will get automatic acceptance into the AP Capstone Program.
The AP Capstone Program begins sophomore year of high school and offers Florida students a real financial advantage: it's now a direct path to the state's top Bright Futures Scholarship. Students who earn the AP Capstone Diploma, by scoring a 3 or higher on AP Seminar, AP Research, and four other AP exams, can qualify for full scholarship funding without needing SAT or ACT scores. On top of the scholarship benefit, the program builds strong research, writing, and critical-thinking skills that prepare students for college-level work. Finaly, these students will have the option to walk in white (gown) for graduation.
"What sets our Pre-Capstone Program apart is that it isn't simply a collection of advanced classes: it's a carefully designed pathway for students who are ready to be challenged. Beginning in junior high, students develop the academic habits, critical-thinking skills, and confidence needed to succeed in AP Capstone, Dual Enrollment, and beyond. By the time they enter high school, they aren't just prepared for rigorous coursework; they're already thriving in it."
