Burns Athletics is built on the belief that sports are an important part of the student experience. Through athletics, students develop teamwork, discipline, confidence, resilience, sportsmanship, and a sense of belonging, while having fun and staying active.

Intramural opportunities begin in third grade and continue through high school, giving students of all experience levels a chance to participate and be part of a team.

Competitive interscholastic athletics begin in Junior High and High School, with a growing variety of teams that allow students to represent Burns and compete as Eagles. When Burns does not offer a particular sport, eligible students may also have the opportunity to participate through their designated public school.

Academic Eligibility

Participation in Burns Athletics is a privilege that goes hand in hand with success in the classroom and positive conduct at school.   Student-athletes are expected to maintain appropriate academic standing and demonstrate responsible behavior throughout the season.

  • Elementary School: Student-athletes must be in good academic standing and have minimal disciplinary issues to participate in athletics.

  • Junior High: Student-athletes must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA, have no F’s in core classes, and have minimal disciplinary issues.

  • High School: Student-athletes must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA, have no F’s in core classes, and have minimal disciplinary issues.

Participation Fees

Participation fees help support the costs associated with Burns athletic and recreational programs.

  • Competitive Athletics: A participation fee is required for students competing on any Junior High or High School competitive travel team.

  • Recreational Sports: Elementary, Junior High, and High School co-ed recreational sports are offered as clubs and require a separate participation fee.

Specific fees, payment information, and deadlines will be provided for each sport or program.

Eli Grau -Cross Country

Kira Walker - Volleyball

Each month, Burns Sci-Tech will recognize one boy and one girl as our Athletes of the Month. This honor highlights students who demonstrate outstanding athletic performance, dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Recognizing these athletes not only celebrates their hard work and achievements but also encourages all of our students to strive for excellence both on and off the field or court. By showcasing positive role models, we aim to build a culture of pride, commitment, and leadership within our athletic programs, inspiring others to give their best in every practice and game.

Athletes of the Month: Why They Stand Out

Eli Grau - Cross Country

Eli was a consistent participant in our summer running leading up the season. At practice, he is working hard being a leader for the middle schoolers. He is pushing himself as well as the middle school group. He overall an awesome kid. Comes to practice ready to learn and run.

Kira Walker - Volleyball

Kira is the definition of a true team player. She is willing to play for anyone, at any position, and at any time—as long as she is helping her team. Her commitment to her teammates and her willingness to do whatever is needed make her someone her team can always count on.

What makes Kira even more deserving is that her accomplishments extend well beyond athletics. She is a top student, plays club volleyball, and is also a drummer. She manages all of these commitments while continuing to be a dependable and positive presence for her teammates.
