Class Registration Information

Greetings Jr. High School Students and Parents,

As we prepare for the 2025-26 school year, I am excited to share important information regarding course selection. There are three documents to guide you through the process:

Jr. High Course Guidance: This document provides an overview of the various learning styles and which one might be best for your student.

Electives Description: Detailed descriptions of elective courses.

Jr. Scholar Program Application: For students aiming to excel academically.

It's an exciting time as our students begin making their class selections for next year. You'll see a lot about learning styles being our theme for next year, encouraging students to find their individual learning and study styles as they build the foundational skills for high school readiness.

You can learn more about learning styles through the XELLO app located on our website in your student’s BST Clever account. Your student most likely has already completed their learning style quiz with our school counselor, Samantha Brumenschenkel. This quick learning style quiz and report should be saved in their account. If not, it's a quick assessment (10 minutes max), they can even complete it from home!

Learning Styles: Students have different learning styles that they prefer and work better with how their brain learns. Typically, there are three types: visual (reading/writing), auditory, and tactile (hands-on), but we have taken these styles and condensed them into two types.

Scholar Learning Style: This traditional teaching method has been used in schools for many years. It is considered the best way to prepare students for college and university studies. It focuses mainly on reading/writing (visual learning), with less focus on hands-on (tactile) and collaborative learning (auditory). The teaching style is more direct, and students are evaluated through individual tests, quizzes, and research papers, with individual answers being the desired outcome. The classroom environment is formal and orderly, with students working independently, so there is limited movement and noise.

Entrepreneur Learning Style: This style still uses traditional teaching methods but also incorporates more project-based learning, which prepares students for the business world. This style allows for a balance of all the learning styles, including tactile (hands-on) and collaborative learning (auditory).  At times, students will work on projects and play team games that require them to solve problems, answer questions, and explore topics. Projects and games are usually done in small groups, so students can work on their leadership, collaboration, and communication skills. There will be a balance of individual and team tests, quizzes, papers, with the addition of rubric grading for projects. The classroom environment is usually more dynamic and interactive, with students moving around and working together.

Students can choose their preferred learning style for some of their classes, though all courses will include various styles.

Jr. Scholar Program: This program is for students who have a desire to excel academically and eventually attend a high-level college/university.

Students must fill out an application, take Scholar English and Scholar Science, compete in the science fair, and apply for Jr. National Honor Society. Students accepted into this program will be given access to high school electives and, if excelling, can take dual enrollment at the end of their 8th-grade year. The application is attached to this email or can be picked up in the high school office.

Review the documents and make your selections. For assistance, please attend our Academic Night on May 1 at 6:30 PM in the gym. Please submit course selections by May 5, 2025.

Thank you for your cooperation and support.

Sincerely,

Mr. Hargrave
