Last Thursday, as part of School Choice Week, Burns Sci-Tech proudly hosted our annual STEM Night for families and members of our community and what an incredible evening it was! From the gym to the cafeteria, to the IT and Marine Science classrooms, our entire campus came alive with hands-on learning, creativity, and excitement.
The moment families walked through the doors, they were greeted by Ms. Zahn and some beautiful glass projects on display, setting the tone for a night filled with innovation and inspiration. Teachers and staff handed out maps to guide visitors to all the amazing activities across campus, and there truly was something for everyone.
As families entered the gym, they were immediately welcomed by a variety of exciting hands-on exhibits. One of the first stops was Ms. Kerwood’s station, where visitors learned how to create moon craters through fun, interactive demonstrations. Nearby, Mr. M invited students and families to explore learning through video games, showing how technology and education can work hand in hand. Ms. Hunt demonstrated the power of a shop vacuum, and Ms. Hatcher showcased a robot her class affectionately named Just Timmy, who navigated around obstacles.
Several interactive exhibits from the Museum of Arts and Sciences (MOAS), generously donated last year, were also set up around campus. Guests could drum to match their heartbeat or toss cotton balls through a wind tunnel to explore the power of moving air. These engaging activities encouraged curiosity and made scientific concepts easy to understand.

In the cafeteria, Mr. Z brought his interactive classroom experience to life, creating another exciting space where families could learn together through hands-on exploration and discovery.
In the IT room, Ms. Brosky and Ms. Kogen showed families how to move robots to pick up magnets, while Ms. Duncan welcomed guests into her Marine Science room to watch seahorses being fed and say hello to the resident puffer fish.
Clubs and student groups were also well represented. Ms. Brannen highlighted the creativity of the Crochet Club, while Mr. Hall shared the excitement of the Model Car Club. Our theater department joined in, along with Capstone students who presented various demonstrations. DECA kept everyone energized with a delicious bake sale so visitors could enjoy treats while exploring the many exhibits.
Throughout the evening, families viewed science fair projects, 4th-grade light projects, and countless other displays that reflected the curiosity and hard work of our students. As guests left the gym lobby and walked toward the doors leading to the cafeteria, they were able to take a special trip down memory lane. Tables were lined with displays of photos showcasing highlights from our school’s past 10 years, celebrating the growth, memories, and milestones that have shaped our campus. It was a meaningful way for families, students, and alumni to reflect on how far Burns has come.
With so many activities happening at once, it would be impossible to list them all but that is what made STEM Night so special. Every corner of our campus buzzed with excitement, discovery, and pride.
STEM Night was a true celebration of learning, creativity, and community. We are grateful to our dedicated teachers, staff, students, and families who made this event such a success. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this night one to remember. We look forward to many more evenings like this in the future!
