Precision, Practice, and Pride: Celebrating Our Archery Team

This week, Mr. Carignan’s Archery Team reached an exciting milestone by hosting their first in-house tournament in our gym, with families in attendance to cheer on our talented students. The event highlighted the dedication, discipline, and growing skills of our archers as they put months of hard work into action.
During the tournament, students competed in three flights from 10 meters and three flights from 15 meters, demonstrating focus, consistency, and strong technique. This format reflects what students can expect at official competitions and helps prepare them for future tournament experiences.
The purpose of this event was more than competition. It provided students with the opportunity to shoot in front of an audience, manage nerves, follow tournament procedures, and gain valuable real-world experience. These skills are essential as we continue working toward our long-term goal of taking our team to regional and state competitions.
What an Archery Tournament Involves
A formal archery tournament requires athletes to demonstrate accuracy, control, and mental focus over multiple rounds. Archers must:
Follow strict safety protocols
Shoot within designated time limits
Maintain proper form and posture
Track and score their shots accurately
Remain composed under pressure

These competitions test not only physical skill, but also patience, discipline, and sportsmanship.
Building Pathways to College Opportunities
One of the long-term goals of our archery program is to help interested students pursue college-level competition and potential scholarship opportunities. Archery scholarships are typically awarded based on consistent high performance, tournament participation, strong academic standing, and commitment to training.
In Florida, schools such as the University of Florida, Florida State University, and the University of Central Florida offer competitive archery clubs and programs that can open doors for dedicated student-athletes. With continued growth and experience, our students will be well-positioned to pursue these opportunities.
Our Growing Program
The Archery Club currently serves students in grades 6 through 12 and includes 40 members. From this group, 29 students have earned placement on the competitive team by achieving high scores and demonstrating consistent performance.
Team membership is based on effort, improvement, and achievement. Students work hard throughout the year to develop their skills and earn their place, making team participation both an honor and a responsibility.

Supporting Program Growth
As our archery program continues to expand, additional equipment is needed to support our students and future growth. Current needs include:
Additional targets
Safety nets
Arrows
Another set of 10 bows
A storage rack for equipment
Donations of any size are greatly appreciated. Every contribution helps provide more opportunities for students to train, compete, and succeed.
Thank You to Our Families and Supporters
We are grateful to the families who attended and supported our first in-house tournament. Your presence encouraged our students and made the event even more meaningful. We also extend our sincere thanks to Mr. Carignan for his dedication to building a strong, structured, and inspiring archery program.
Through hard work, discipline, and community support, our archery team is developing not only skilled athletes but also confident, focused, and motivated young leaders. We look forward to watching this program continue to grow and reach new heights in the years ahead.
