As Thanksgiving break approached, Burns Sci-Tech was filled with the warmth, excitement, and gratitude that make this time of year so meaningful. The days leading up to the holiday were packed with traditions, hands-on activities, and joyful moments that brought students, families, and teachers together in the true spirit of the season.

Second grade launched the festivities with their 3rd Annual Thanksgiving Feast, a tradition that has quickly become one of the most cherished events of the year.

Families arrived carrying homemade dishes, savory favorites, and delicious desserts, each one thoughtfully prepared to share with the entire grade. The outside basketball court transformed into a vibrant community gathering space. Tables were lined with colorful plates of food, parents set up folding chairs and cozy blankets, and students beamed with excitement as they spotted their families and friends coming together in one place.

What made the feast truly special wasn’t just the meal; it was the sense of togetherness. Parents chatted with other families, students shared their favorite dishes, and teachers enjoyed watching their classroom communities unite outside the four walls of school. It was a beautiful moment to pause, reflect, and give thanks for the people who make Burns Sci-Tech feel like a second home. These shared experiences remind us that education isn’t just about academics; it’s about connection, belonging, and celebrating life’s meaningful moments side by side.

Meanwhile, first grade brought its own burst of holiday excitement with a rotation of festive activity stations. Every classroom offered something new, creative, and full of seasonal charm. Students began by coloring fall trees and adding leaves made from bright, cheerful fingerprint stamps, tiny pieces of art that captured the colors of autumn and the imagination of each child. What no one expected was that even the napkins they used to wipe their paint-covered fingers turned into beautiful pieces of abstract fall art. Swirls of red, orange, yellow, and brown layered together in ways no one planned, and the students proudly held up their accidental masterpieces to share with their teachers and friends.

In another classroom, they crafted adorable Oreo cookie turkeys, complete with candy corn feathers and edible eyes, turning simple ingredients into sweet little treats that students proudly showed off before enjoying every bite. In the next station, they played fall bingo, where laughter filled the room as students used candy corn as markers, cheering each other on with every “Bingo!” called. The rotation wrapped up with pom-pom cornucopias, a hands-on craft that let students build miniature, colorful symbols of abundance to take home for the holiday.

Throughout the week, classrooms buzzed with excitement. Teachers embraced the joy of the season, students immersed themselves in creativity and play, and families looked forward to hearing all about the fun each day. These celebrations not only ushered in the Thanksgiving spirit but also strengthened the sense of community that defines Burns Sci-Tech.

It was a week filled with gratitude, laughter, learning, and shared experiences. As we shift into the holiday season, we look ahead with excitement to all the magic the coming weeks will bring before Christmas break. Whether through classroom projects, school-wide events, or small everyday moments, we know the joy will continue to grow just like the memories our students create every day at Burns.
