Burns recently had the honor of attending the Southeast Volusia Kiwanis Club Luncheon, where several of our teachers were recognized for their exceptional work in the classroom. During the event, Burns was awarded a total of $2,795 in Kiwanis Teacher Mini-Grants; funds that will help bring creative ideas and innovative learning experiences to life for our students.

These Teacher Mini-Grants are designed to celebrate and support educators who go above and beyond to inspire and engage their students. The grants fund hands-on projects, classroom materials, and experiences that might otherwise not be possible through traditional funding. Each proposal reflects the passion and creativity of our teachers and their commitment to providing meaningful, real-world learning opportunities for our students.

Representing Burns at the luncheon were our grant recipients: Coach Carignan, Mr. Carignan, Ms. Trebesh, Mr. Rush Sr., Ms. Brannen, Ms. Ferris, Ms. Jarret, Ms. Martinez, Ms. Kogan, Ms. Brosky, and Ms. Hawes (not in attendance was Ms. Lagana, but she was there in spirit). Each of these educators exemplifies what it means to go above and beyond, constantly finding ways to make learning exciting, relevant, and engaging for their students. Their dedication is a testament to the heart and excellence that define our Burns community.

The luncheon was filled with celebration, camaraderie, and appreciation for local educators. Adding a touch of extra excitement, Ms. Trebesh was the lucky winner of the Golden Ticket, which awarded her two tickets to the Kiwanis Strike It Rich Fundraiser. This annual spring event supports youth programs and community initiatives throughout Southeast Volusia.

The Kiwanis Club is a global service organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and strengthening communities through volunteerism, leadership, and partnership. Locally, the Southeast Volusia Kiwanis Club plays a vital role in uplifting schools, supporting youth programs, and creating opportunities for students to thrive. Their mission to empower communities and to serve children aligns perfectly with the work we do each day at Burns to nurture and inspire the next generation.

We are incredibly grateful to the Southeast Volusia Kiwanis Club for their generosity, community spirit, and continued investment in education. Partnerships like these remind us of the powerful impact that can occur when schools and community organizations work together. The support provided through these grants will not only enhance learning in our classrooms but will also inspire students to think creatively, explore boldly, and dream big.

Thank you, Kiwanis Club, for recognizing our teachers’ hard work and for helping us continue to make a difference in one classroom, one project, and one student at a time.
