Burns Eagles Soar at the Energy Whiz Competition!

On April 26, 2025, some of our amazing Burns students traveled to Cocoa, Florida, to showcase their talents at the EnergyWhiz competition, hosted by the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC). It was a day filled with creativity, teamwork, and excitement!

EnergyWhiz is a prestigious statewide event where students from across Florida demonstrate their knowledge and innovation in renewable energy and engineering.

Through hands-on projects like solar-powered cars, energy-efficient model homes, and even "critter comfort cottages," participants explore real-world energy challenges and sustainable design. It's more than just a competition — it's a celebration of the future leaders in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM)!

Participation in EnergyWhiz provides students with invaluable experiences — from applying classroom knowledge to designing, building, and testing their own creations, to learning how to problem-solve in real-time, collaborate under pressure, and think outside the box. These are exactly the kinds of skills that prepare students for future success in STEM fields and beyond.

We are thrilled to announce that our Burns Eagles truly soared this year! Our team earned an incredible 1st Place finish, along with the Best Display Award for outstanding presentation and creativity, and the coveted Wow Award — a special honor given to projects that leave a lasting impression for their innovation, quality, and ingenuity.

We could not be prouder of the dedication, perseverance, and brilliance our students displayed throughout the competition. Events like EnergyWhiz show just how powerful hands-on learning can be, and how our Burns Eagles continue to rise to every challenge with excellence.
