At Burns Science and Technology, we are always looking for innovative ways to engage students, encourage discipline, and introduce new lifelong skills. This year, we're proud to spotlight our growing Archery program, led by Coach Carignan and aligned with the National Archery in Schools Program (NASP).
Currently, our 7th and 8th-grade students are participating in their first archery unit, and the excitement is in the air. Students are learning the fundamentals of the sport, from mastering proper stance and arm movements to understanding how to safely handle and shoot a bow. They practice using NASP-approved equipment and are guided through the 11 Steps to Archery Success, a proven framework that teaches focus, precision, and consistency.

In addition to learning how to aim and release arrows, students are also exploring target scoring, analyzing how each shot counts, and how accuracy is measured in competition. The archery unit not only teaches technical skills but also helps students develop patience, confidence, and self-control.
Coach Carignan is helping lay the foundation for something even bigger, as Mr. Carignan plans to launch a Burns Archery Team in the 2025–2026 school year. This team will allow interested students to build their skills and showcase their hard work and discipline.
Whether it's a student’s first time holding a bow or their new favorite hobby, archery is quickly becoming a powerful tool for growth at Burns Sci-Tech. We look forward to watching this program — and our students — continue to soar!
