Mrs. Hutchinson’s 7th-grade class recently stepped into the spotlight as they pitched original product ideas during a Shark Tank–style project, showcasing creativity, critical thinking, and real-world business skills. Working in collaborative groups, students were challenged to design a product from start to finish, including developing a prototype, researching competitors, and preparing a persuasive pitch.
During the presentations, the classroom transformed into a true Shark Tank experience. Students pitched their ideas to the “sharks,” local entrepreneurs Kelly Robinson and Jessica Hatcher, who each run different businesses, and brought unique perspectives to the discussion. They asked thoughtful, challenging questions about profit margins, production costs, marketing strategies, and scalability, pushing students to think deeply and respond confidently.
The competition added an exciting, real-world twist. Some groups impressed the sharks enough to secure a “deal,” earning praise for their innovation, preparation, and problem-solving skills. Other teams were sent back to the drawing board, encouraged to refine their ideas, adjust pricing, rethink production methods, or strengthen their marketing plans.

This process helped students understand that setbacks are part of entrepreneurship and that improvement often comes from constructive feedback.
Throughout the project, students demonstrated remarkable ingenuity, resilience, and collaboration. Whether they walked away with a deal or valuable feedback, every student gained firsthand experience in critical thinking, communication, and an entrepreneurial mindset. These 7th graders rose to the challenge and proved they are thinkers, creators, and future leaders, definitely students to watch!
