Recently, our second grade students got to enjoy the exciting reward for weeks of hard work, planning, teamwork, and entrepreneurship during their annual Water Day celebration.

Every year, second grade students participate in their annual student-run store project, an experience that goes far beyond simply selling items. The project is a full-circle learning experience that teaches students valuable lessons in teamwork, communication, financial literacy, responsibility, marketing, customer service, and problem solving.

Just a few weeks ago, families and community members visited the second grade store to support the students and purchase the items they worked so hard to create and organize. Students took ownership of every step of the process. From deciding what foods and drinks to sell and assigning jobs to creating advertisements, organizing setup and takedown, learning customer service skills, gathering reviews, and handling money, students truly experienced what it takes to run a successful business.

Each student played an important role throughout the project. Some students worked as cashiers, others helped serve customers, advertise products, organize materials, or assist with setup and cleanup. Together, they learned how teamwork and planning help a business succeed.

After the store concluded, students were able to go back, calculate their profits, and make decisions together about how they wanted to use the money they earned. Every year, the students choose to use those profits to create a fun and memorable Water Day experience for the entire grade level.

This year’s celebration did not disappoint.

Students spent the day outside enjoying two giant water slides, an inflatable obstacle course, a blow-up dart board, and an inflatable basketball area complete with two hoops. Laughter, excitement, and smiles filled the air as students splashed, raced, played, and celebrated together with their teachers and classmates.

What makes this project so special is that students truly get to experience the reward for their hard work. They see firsthand how planning, cooperation, creativity, and responsibility can lead to something meaningful and fun for everyone involved.

The annual second grade store and Water Day continue to be one of the most memorable and impactful traditions for our students because it combines real-world learning with teamwork, leadership, and celebration.

It was a day our second graders truly got to enjoy the fruits of their labor, and it was a fantastic day filled with fun, laughter, and well-earned celebration. Great job Eagles!
