A New Tradition in the Making: Sisters Share the Court
Traditions are part of what makes being involved in a school community and its athletic programs so meaningful. Some are passed down from one generation of students to the next, while others grow from unexpected moments that become lasting memories for the students who experience them.
On Monday, our Lady Eagles volleyball program experienced one of those unforgettable moments.
This season, we are fortunate to have three sets of sisters playing across our JV and Varsity volleyball teams. Varsity includes senior Ryleigh Drollinger, along with freshmen Samantha Starkey and Alexa Kurtz. Their younger sisters, Mckenna Drollinger, Taylor Starkey, and Sophia Kurtz, play on JV.
For one special evening, all six sisters had the opportunity to share the court when the three JV players were invited to play up with Varsity.
It was a memorable experience for all three families, made even more special by the moments that unfolded on the court. Mckenna had the opportunity set her senior sister, Ryleigh, who finished the play with a kill. What made the moment special was not just what happened on the court, but who was sharing it together. It was sisters sharing the court, creating memories together that they and their families will carry with them long after the season comes to an end.
The evening became even more special during the final set against Halifax Academy, when all six sisters took the court together. Ryleigh and Mckenna, Samantha and Taylor, and Alexa and Sophia shared the court as teammates, bringing the night to a memorable close. When the final point was scored, the sisters celebrated a Varsity victory together, creating a moment that was about much more than the game itself.
Looking Ahead
This special night represents more than sisters sharing the court. It represents the kind of culture we hope to continue building within our volleyball program.
As our volleyball program continues to grow, we hope this becomes a tradition that carries on for years to come, alongside the many new traditions our athletes will create along the way. We want to empower our teams to build strong connections, celebrate meaningful moments, and create experiences that strengthen not only their bond as teammates, but our school community as a whole.
For the Drollinger, Starkey, and Kurtz families, Monday night will always be a special part of their volleyball story. For our Lady Eagles, it represents the kind of culture we want to continue building, one rooted in teamwork, relationships, school spirit, and lasting memories.
Traditions allow us to celebrate where we have been while creating something meaningful for those who come next. We look forward to watching our athletes carry this spirit forward, continuing traditions like this one while creating new ones of their own.
