School Advisory Council

February 2022

Meeting called to order at 6:11 p.m. on 2/23/2022. Meeting was held in person at the Burns Cafeteria.

2.

The following members were in attendance: Sherri Berner, Shawn Campbell, John Dawson, Tammy Dawson, Caroline Ferris, Alexis Galerno, Renee Hutchinson, Deborah King, Nicole Kogan, Andrea Kurak, Oviya Larkowski, Dr. Jan McGee, Steve McGee, Ursula Moccia, Marina Owens, Maria Senecal, Alisha Trainor, and Megan Trebesh.

The following members were absent: Sashauna Bailey, Marybeth Brosky, Peggy Cousins (excused), Tina Duncan (excused), Stephanie Ferrara, Leslie Giese (excused), Jenny Graham (excused), Daniel Hargrave (excused), Jayme Kolodzik, Trish Lingefelter (excused), Dandi Robillard, Dr. Thayer (excused), Kevin Thayer (excused), and Tamey Weese.

Quorum established.

Minutes reviewed from January 2022 meeting. Corrections to be made in January attendance. Motion to approve by Maria Senecal. Seconded by Marina Owens.

Approval of resignations from SAC for Marina Moffett and Melissa Snyder. Motion to approve by Megan Trebesh. Seconded by Shawn Campbell.

DAC Report - No attendance last month from SAC. Meetings have moved to in person only. Next meeting will be March 2 at 5:15 p.m. at Deltona High

8.

Committee reviewed questions for this year's survey to be sent out to parents and teachers. Some changes were needed to eliminate online learning questions. Upon changes, surveys should be sent out after Spring Break.

Principal’s Report -a. Accreditation Process - Parents needed to sign up for the Accreditation meeting. Meeting will be held via Zoom or in person at Burns. Meeting will be at 9 a.m.b. STEM Certification renewal will be March 30.c. G.O.L.D. (Girl’s Overnight Leadership Development) will be held Friday, February 25, 2022. This will be for girl’s in grades 6-11 only. There will be a panel discussion, as well as many activities and team building exercises. d. Next week, Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez, and the Department of Education will be coming to Burns to see what our school is all about. Senator Wright had recommended coming to our school because of the excellent space and technology driven projects. e. Spring Break is March 11-20. f. The Golf Tournament has been moved to May. g. Burns first prom will be May 20th. h. Lottery for new students will be held around March 7th. i. Kindergarten already has a count of 42 with just siblings alone. ii. No openings in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd grades. iii. 4th and 5th grades will each have a new class added this year. iv. Sixth grade will have 3 new classes added. Sixth grade will be located in the middle school building. v. New High School building will be completed in August 2022. 7th & 8th grades will be located on the top floor. 9th - 12th grades will be located downstairs.

Next SAC meeting will be held March 23, 2022 at 6 p.m. in the Burns Cafeteria.
