Leading by Example: Giving Back to Our Community

At Burns Sci Tech, we believe that education is about more than what happens inside our classrooms. It is about cultivating leaders who understand the importance of serving others and making their community a better place.
Today, our Board Member Damian Hall spent time at the GROW Healthy Kids warehouse, helping load a huge shipment of recess boxes and shoes that will be delivered to five schools throughout Volusia County.
GROW Healthy Kids is doing incredible work right here in our local community, helping provide children with resources and opportunities that support their health, well-being, and ability to thrive. We are proud to support an organization that is making a tangible difference for children and families in our area.
We also submitted a list of Burns Sci Tech students who will be receiving shoes through this initiative over the next few weeks. We are excited to see this partnership directly benefit some of our own students while also helping children across Volusia County.
A special thank you to Damian for stepping up and helping make this happen. His willingness to roll up his sleeves, serve others, and give his time is a wonderful example of the kind of leadership we want our students to see and experience.
This is what we mean when we talk about cultivating leaders at Burns Sci Tech. Leadership isn't just about what you accomplish for yourself. It is about recognizing where you can make a difference, showing up, and helping others.
Our community is stronger when we take care of one another. It isn't always about us or what happens within our own school walls. It is about building a community where we support each other, lift each other up, and work together to make Volusia County a better place for all of our children.
The Burns community is continuing to show what it means to lead by example. After Coach G ran the New York City Marathon with GROW Healthy Kids last year, he nominated our Elementary Principal, Mrs. Galerno, to take on the challenge this year. Mrs. Galerno will be running the New York City Marathon this year in support of GROW Healthy Kids!
