Costumes, Creativity & Community: Celebrating Our Storybook Parade

Last Friday, Burns Sci-Tech celebrated one of our favorite traditions of the year, our annual K–12 Storybook Parade! It is always such a special time of year when our hallways and classrooms come to life with storybook characters, creative costumes, and plenty of smiles. There is nothing quite like seeing our students arrive dressed as their favorite characters and watching their excitement build as they get ready to show off their costumes!

One of the things that makes this event so special is seeing students of ALL ages get involved. From our youngest Eagles in kindergarten to our junior high and high school students, everyone joins in the fun! We especially love seeing our older students embrace the tradition and participate right alongside our elementary students. Our teachers get creative, too, putting together some fantastic group costumes that add even more fun and personality to the day. It's a wonderful reminder that you're never too old to enjoy a good story!

The fun kicked off with our EPIC Bake Sale, hosted by our 6th-grade teachers and parents. Families and visitors were welcomed with hot coffee, doughnuts, cookies, brownies, and plenty of other delicious treats. The fundraiser will help support our sixth graders as they prepare for their EPIC Universe field trip at the end of the school year. These special experiences give students something exciting to look forward to, and fundraisers like this help make those opportunities possible. A big thank-you to everyone who stopped by, enjoyed a treat, and supported our sixth-grade students. We appreciate our community's generosity and continued support!

Then it was time for the main event, the parade! Students made their way around the front of the school, circling twice so families and friends had plenty of time to see all the costumes and cheer on their favorite characters. From classic storybook favorites to imaginative and creative costumes, there was so much to see! Our students loved having the opportunity to show off their hard work and creativity to the families who came out to watch. After their two laps around the school, everyone headed back to class with plenty of excitement and memories from the morning.

But the fun didn't stop there! Our 7th–12th graders continued the celebration with a pep rally hosted by our Student Government Association (SGA). The gym was packed with school spirit, fun games, and a costume contest that gave students another chance to show off their creativity.

One of the highlights of the pep rally was a special performance by 7th grader Maverick, who absolutely wowed the crowd with his Michael Jackson-inspired dance moves! His performance brought plenty of energy and excitement to the gym and was a fantastic way to keep the celebration going.

From creative costumes and sweet treats to school spirit, dancing, and plenty of laughter, the day was filled with everything we love about our Burns Sci-Tech community. Events like our Storybook Parade are about more than just dressing up. They allow our students to celebrate reading, express their creativity, build connections across grade levels, and create memories together as one school family.

We are so thankful to our families who came out to support the parade, our sixth grade teachers and families who helped make the bake sale a success, our teachers and staff who joined in the fun, and our SGA students who put together such a great pep rally.

It was a day full of imagination, creativity, and Eagle pride, and the perfect way to end the week!
