Lottery Communication to ProspectiveBST Families

Dear Potential Burns Sci-Tech Family

Thank you so much for your interest in Burns Science and Technology Charter School.  We are excited to share our new prospective student lottery process with you. Our school has grown rapidly in recent years, and we have a waiting list for all grades at this time.

Because of the increased demand, school administrators wanted to streamline the lottery process reducing the time spent by staff and using a third-party vendor in the selection process to ensure the lottery is conducted transparently and fairly to all applicants. Burns Sci-Tech administration reviewed a variety of technical vendors to support their desire for a new lottery process and has selected Lotterease to conduct the school’s next student selection process, which will occur on May 3, 2023. Lotterease is a software system that specializes in the student selection process for charter schools.

Burn Sci-Tech staff have participated in training on the system and are ready to implement the upcoming lottery to select students for the 2023-2024 school year.

Burns Sci-Tech will continue to give preference to students whose:

·       Siblings currently attend Burns Sci-Tech
·        Parents are members of the administration, faculty, staff, and school board of Burns Sci-Tech
·       Parent who is serving on active duty in the U.S.military

All families who have applied to have their child attend Burns Sci-Tech as of April 26, 2023, will be included in the 2023-2024 school year lottery selection process. Families participating in the lottery will get communication about their child’s acceptance or current position on the waiting list via the email they provided during the application process.

If space becomes available at Burns Sci-Tech after the lottery on May 3 is concluded, students are selected from the waiting list created by Lotterease.

If your student is admitted to Burns Sci-Tech for the upcoming school year, we will need you to verify that you will take that seat quickly.  You will have three days to let us know of your intent to send your child to Burns Sci-Tech for the 2023-2024 school year.  If you do not respond or have made other educational plans for your child, the next child on the waitlist will be selected to attend. We will notify parents if their child is taken from the waitlist and accepted into Burns Sci-Tech for the 2023-2024 school year.

We understand that transitioning to a new system for our lottery can cause uncertainty for families. We are confident in the
Lotterease software, have been impressed with their support, and are aware of other schools in our county that have used the Lotterease software with excellent results.

We appreciate your patience as we transition into this newsystem that will provide transparency and fairness in our admissions process.

There are approximately 1500 students on the Burns Sci Tech waiting list at this time, and we know many of you may be anxious to know whether your child will be admitted for the upcoming school year.  We ask that you please not call or email the office to inquire about your child’s application status until we have uploaded all applicants into the Lotterease system. We don’t have the staff to respond to repeated calls or emails.

If by May 1, 2023, you have not received a confirmation email that you have been added into the Lotterease system to verify your child’s status (please check your junk folder as well), you may email and let us know you have not received a response. This email box will not be monitored until after the upload is completed on May 1, 2023.  We will respond to your inquiry as quickly as time permits.

Thank you for your patience in this process and your continued interest in Burns Sci-Tech for your child.
